Biography

I was born and raised in a countryside of Japan. My father was once a song lyrics writer and my mother was a nurse for the most of her life. I am so glad that she recently made her complete retirement. My father used to take me to movies when I was little. Movies have been my one of my favorite entertainments since then. My aunt was a professional singer who released a couple of single records from a major label in Japan. Watching her singing on a big stage in my hometown made me think about working in the entertainment industry. Although my father told me how tough the industry was.

Later the passion for movies had me shoot 2 short films in my high school days. The first film that I also starred in was awarded from the school. However music became my biggest passion. I started to play the bass guitar and then formed bands . Due to attending a school in Tokyo, I moved there by myself. Hopefully I wanted to pursue music there. Regardless of dreaming to become a rock star in the Mega City, of course it was not easy at all. As I didn’t have many friends there and I had lots of time, I often go to see movies in Shinjuku and Shibuya areas. It didn’t take a long to discover myself getting really fascinated by the acting of NY Actors like Marlon Brando, James Dean, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Shortly after I started to study acting and pantomime there. One of the acting teachers that I had was an expert for Method Acting. It was such a rare opportunity in Japan around that time. As I kept training myself, I got involved in theater and appearing in indie films there.

After seeing Black Rain directed by Ridely Scott starring Yusaku Matsuda who has been one of my favorite actors, I want to be an actor can act in English for international projects. As I was always fascinated by New York actors, I decided to move to New York City to pursue my acting career. Since then, I have been residing in the city with lots of my friends’ support and I have been in plays, films and so on and continue to grow as an actor. My acting teacher, Terry Schreiber was one of my biggest inspirations as well as my partners in crime such as Gordon Eriksen, John-Luke Montias, Toshiaki Toyoda and Ken Lin are.

I used to think Actors should focus on acting, but lately I set my creativity free. Thus, besides acting, write, direct, photography, filming documentary projects and sing in rock bands. As a documentarian / Filmmaker, I have been co-directing shooting interviews for NY Japanese American Oral History Project since late 2015. Currently Master Yoshi’s Terrible Day written & directed by Ken Lin, I produced and starred in, has been screened at film festivals.
